Meet Nadia

Hi! I am a doctoral student and graduate instructor in Political Science at the University of Nevada Las Vegas. My research focuses on transnationalism and the social and political effects of migration on sending states, with a focus on the Middle East and North Africa. I am particularly interested in the effects of remittances on receiving individuals/households and states. I was awarded funding from the American Political Science Association’s Doctoral Dissertation Research Improvement Grant and the American Institute of Maghrib Studies to pursue this research agenda for the 2021-2022 academic year.

Along with my own research, I am working on research projects regarding climate change and natural disasters and their effects on intra-state conflict and contention in collaboration with professors from the UNLV Department of Political Science. I also teach undergraduate introductory courses in International Relations and Comparative Politics.

Prior to enrolling at UNLV, I earned an MA in Political Science at the University of Toronto. I was also a journalist and digital content producer at Gulf News, the largest English-language newspaper the United Arab Emirates, and worked as a writer, editor, and content consultant for a wide range of publications and clients in the United States. I continue to teach online classes in writing and digital content via Skillshare.

Thanks for visiting my site!
