Research

Research Interests

My research revolves around transnational political and social links and how diasporas exert influence on their home countries through institutional and economic opportunities. I focus primarily on the Middle East and North Africa, looking at diaspora impacts on contention and public behavior in the region.

My research relies primarily on survey data to examine interpersonal dynamics and individual public opinion and behaviors. I have fielded independent online surveys as well as used publicly available survey data to answer questions such as: how does experience with migration affect a person’s attitudes towards their country of origin? How does knowing a migrant affect a person’s perception of their own country? How does conflict in a person’s country of origin affect their political leanings and activism?

Other research interests I am pursuing include the effects of climate change on conflict and how conditions in the migrants’ countries-of-origin affect their integration in their host country.
